Lefkas is one of the Ionian Islands in Western Greece and a popular holiday destination. A bridge and dike connect the island to the mainland. Lefkas is named after the white sands and rocks at Cape Lefkatas and has a coastline of 117 kilometers with beautiful beaches and idyllic coves. The famous Porto Katsiki is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.
The inland is green and mountainous with charming, authentic mountain villages. The highest peak is the Elati at 1158 meters. The extensive road network invites you to explore and the various harbors are well equipped for the busy tourist boat traffic.
Walking on Lefkas is also a unique experience. Especially in spring, when the inland is covered with wildflowers. The most beautiful hiking trails can be found here.
Driving from the mainland through a beautiful lagoon, you pass the Agia Mavra fortress, built in the 13th century to protect the inhabitants from outside attacks. After the bridge and dike you enter the island in the capital.
Lefkas town is surrounded by water, beaches and a modern marina with countless luxury yachts, sailboats and fishing boats. The center consists of picturesque narrow streets, beautiful squares and a long main street with an extensive and modern range of shops. There are also several museums and beautiful churches to visit.
Nidri is located in a green bay on the east coast, with a beautiful view of the Seven Islands. The friendly atmosphere, lively boulevard, harbor and sandy beach with many taverns, bars and shops makes Nidri a popular destination.
There are boats for rent to discover for instance many beautiful deserted beaches and there is a wide choice of daily cruises and ferries to the islands of Meganisi, Skorpios or Kefalonia. The inland is worth a visit as well. A walk to the waterfalls for example! And a ride into the mountains is immediately rewarded with a breathtaking view.
